Chevrolet Camaro — культовый американский спортивный автомобиль, pony car, выпускаюшийся подразделением Chevrolet корпорации General Motors с 1966 года. Производство было прекращено в 2002 году и возобновлено на новой технической базе в 2009 году. Название Camaro является производным от французского camarade — друг, приятель.

История Chevrolet Camaro

В послевоенные десятилетия в США родилось более 70 миллионов детей, к началу 1960-х они заканчивали школу, получали водительские права, многие из них устраивались на работу и покупали всё больше и больше автомобилей. Автомобильные корпорации долго не могли понять, как им капитализировать этот рынок, они продолжали выпускать большие семейные седаны, хотя уже было понятно, что молодёжи нужно что-то новое: автомобиль не такой, как у их родителей.

Ли Якокка, глава Ford на тот момент, понимал важность прорыва на молодёжный рынок. Он предложил своим дизайнерам и конструкторам сделать шаг вперёд и создать совершенно новый четырёхместный спортивный автомобиль на шасси Falcon. Получившийся Mustang продавался так хорошо, что полностью изменил взаимоотношения бэби-бумеров и автоиндустрии. Ford представил Mustang 17 апреля 1964 года, к концу дня было продано более 22 тысяч машин, до конца года — 263 434 автомобилей, а за полный первый год Ford продал 418 812 спортивных машин, побив все рекорды, установленные ранее. Главное отличие автомобиля Mustang было в кузове. Короткий багажник, длинный капот и агрессивный внешний вид не имели ничего общего с профилем автомобилей эконом-класса.
